This Week's Review and Giveaway: Quinoa 365: The Everyday Superfood
From Quinoa365.com:
Pronounced 'keen wah', Quinoa is a frequently neglected and relatively unknown superfood - containing a perfect balance of all eight essential amino acids. It is gluten-free and a great source of protein. Nothing else packs a punch of nutrition quite like quinoa.
What was once considered an alternative crop or a niche food, quinoa is now becoming increasingly common in North America.
High Protein, Maximum Nutrition... Quinoa has more recently garnered interest from the health-conscious crowd looking for maximum nutrition and those on high protein diets, seeking weight loss or those just wanting to eat better quality foods. Quinoa can promote weight loss, building muscle, alleviate migraine headaches, help diabetes, promote cardiovascular health and prevent hardening of the arteries. It has also been linked to helping prevent breast cancer, childhood asthma, gallstones and acts as a super antioxidant.
Balanced and Unique... A balanced protein, quinoa has a complete combination of all life supporting nutrients, containing all eight essential amino acids. This balance makes it highly digestible and completely unique in the plant kingdom.
Vitamin Rich... Not only high in protein, quinoa is high in fiber, and vitamins such as riboflavin, calcium, vitamin E, iron, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, folic acid and beta carotene. It is also abundant in linolenic acid, the essential fatty acid that has proven to benefit the immune response.Gluten-Free... Quinoa is familiar to vegetarians as a protein source and to celiacs and those who are gluten-intolerant because it is completely gluten-free.
Intriguing & Unusual... the wow-factor of quinoa has encouraged cooks at all skill levels to use it to create unique dishes for themselves, their families and intrigued dinner party guests.
When I received Quinoa 365 to review and feature on Can I get the Recipe? I was excited. Quinoa is a grain I have been trying to incorporate more into our diets but I was a bit stumped on how to do so. Beyond making a batch to serve food over I really hadn't done anything else. But Quinoa 365 changed all of that.I have dog earred and book marked over a good 25 recipes in Quinoa 365 and I have cooked or baked at least 20. Many recipes, such as Breakfast Fruit and Oatmeal Bars, Healthy Carrot Spiced Muffins, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, Mango Chicken Quinoa, Sante Fe Meatballs, Thai Cashew Chicken and Broccoli Quinoa, and Chili I have made a few times over for my family. When it came to choosing only three recipes to feature on Can I get the Recipe? it was extremely hard doing so. But I managed it, and our readers got to enjoy the Beef Vegetable Quinoa Soup, the Mango Chicken Quinoa, and the Banana Strawberry Muffins.
Each recipe was extremely easy to produce as well as quick and delicious. And an added bonus? I love how the book tabs each recipe under one or more of the following categories: Kid Approved, Gluten Free and/or Vegetarian. It's a great reference to have and I especially appreciate how easy it is to scan through the recipes for either Gluten Free or Kid Friendly, since in our house, GF cooking is a necessity at times and recipes that are Kid-Friendly are a must! There are over 170 delicious recipes to choose from and each will help you incorporate healthy eating into your families diet without much thought. And for all you new moms, there is even a section on Baby Food so you can make your own quinoa enriched baby food. Fabulous!
